ROM Management DAT File

Postby Bart » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:13 pm

I've received a lot of requests for dat files. I don't know what they're for, but I noticed that someone named Flupper has posted one made by JacKc over at MAMEWorld. I've attached it to this post.

Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to make this thread sticky? Are people going to find this useful?

it's used it to audit game ROMs.
my frontend, Emu Loader, need a ROMs list for each game so they can be properly set (available, found with missing ROMs or missing).

it would be so much simpler if frontends would only search for the .zip file and mark the game as available. then, leave the audit to ROM managers like ClrMAME.

I suggest to make it sticky, for now. a bunch of frontends (and ROM manager apps) use this file.

if this file will be updated for future Supermodel releases, I will change my frontend, Emu Loader, to use it.

for a future version, the emulator could have a "-listxml" output feature to generate this xml file, listing the same info from the dat file available in this thread.
it requires some work but since the emulator have all the info compiled in the emulator's binary, it's possible.

but since the file is already created, there's no need for it right now. again, this "could" be an improvement for a future version. and it can be expanded, showing more detailed info, just like the "-listxml" feature from MAME.

thank you for this great emulator.

If anyone out there is still looking for a frontend, i am using GameEx and it does not require the .dat file. just tell it which folder your rom files are in and use the filter *.zip -- Now in my Supermodel Game List, only my games show and it works great.
