SOLVED *v862/Networking - gas pedal not registering in game

Postby nkachelmeyer » Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:33 am

I am having difficulty running 2 racing cabs via LAN. They boot up and sync to each other, but the gas pedal is struggling to work consistently. Sometimes both cabs the gas works, sometimes one cab it works, sometimes neither cab will work. I have to exit the game and go back in to get both cabs gas pedals to work. This can take anywhere from 1 time to 5 times.

I was running v777 before and never had issues with the gas pedal input hooking properly. Only difference now is the v862 and the Networking/LAN. I have tried v862 on each cab without Networking/LAN and it seems to hook the gas pedal input properly every time, so it seems like it is the Networking/LAN.

I have tried starting both games together, tried starting the Master 1st, and then the slave. I have also tried starting the slave 1st and then the master. Same random results for the gas pedal input as stated above. Sometimes it works and its glorious LAN racing and other times you just have to keep restarting the games until it hooks the gas pedal input on both cabs. No issues with other controls. They always seem to hook every time.

My setup is Windows 7 64bit
Sega Model ver862 64bit
2 Logitech Driving force GT wheels/pedals

What happens when you enter the service mode input test after the network link is established and when you've confirmed the game is not responding to pedals? Can you see the pedals registering inputs there?

The gas and brake do not register in the service mode input test when I verify in game that the gas is not working to choose track. Going into the test mode showed me that it is also the brake. All the other controls register, like the wheel, view change, shifter. Only gas and brake are affected when this happens. It must be just something with the linking of the 2 cabs. Like I said before, when running v862 single the issues with gas and brake are not happening. It's like it gets confused for some reason on these inputs when trying to Network 2 cabs.

I tried using a default segamodel.ini where I changed nothing and issue remains. I also tried calibrating the gas and brake in supermodel with the cmd window and same issue.

Can you try using the Logitech software to have the pedals combined into 1 axis and see if that changes any results? Obviously you'll have to recalibrate and reassign.

I can try, but wouldn't think that would be the issue with what I am seeing. I was using this setup with the previous version 777 with no issues (not networking obviously) It does work "sometimes" with v862 (Networking). Each cab's gas/brake works fine with v862 when not Networking.

I think it has to do with the Networking. It seems like the 2 cabs fight for the gas and brake inputs during game startup. Sometimes cab 1 wins and that cab's gas/brake works, sometimes cab 2 wins and that cab's gas/brake works, sometimes both cabs work, and sometimes neither cab works. Its really random. It does seem like cab1 (Master) works the most.

Does your v777 build include networking support? It should still allow all racing games except Le Mans 24 and Sega Rally 2 to run in a LAN, just not at full speed.

Try running a linked game using v777 (you'll need to disable multithreading) and see if the pedals work consistently or not.

OK, this is odd. I have mapped my gas and brake in the supermodel cmd (via the sm3 UI) and they came up and have been working, although inconsistently the following:
InputAccelerator = JOY1_YAXIS_NEG
InputBrake = JOY1_RZAXIS_NEG

I looked at my v777 .ini file and they were mapped differently.
InputAccelerator = "JOY1_SLIDER1_NEG,JOY1_UP"
InputBrake = "JOY1_SLIDER1_POS,JOY1_DOWN"

I copied those and added to the .ini of v862 and now it appears to be working for both cabs consistently.

I will keep you all posted if anything changes, but I have started and exited about 10 times now and in different racing games and both cabs gas/brake inputs are working properly each time.

Thank you all for assisting and walking me through troubleshooting.
