Can't configure the left and right joystick settings

I've tried on Fighting Vipers 2 and VF3. I've tried to configure the left and right inputs on the left stick of an Xbox 360 controller. Every other input is correctly mapped automatically.

Even when I use the configure function, when I reach the left or right joystick inputs, it reads nothing from the controller. When I'm playing a driving game, it reads the analog stick perfectly. And, for some reason, it reads the Up and Down commands flawlessly from the same stick (!), but won't register input movement to the left or right.

Configured the pad in Windows - all inputs working.

I've been in the 'ini file and already applied all the left and right instructions that looked reasonable to the left and right stick, so I think it knows what to do, it just doesn't seem to be reading anything from the stick to send to the game.

Most confused.

Any assistance appreciated.

Figured out a workaround, but not a fix.

Used the config to Append the D-Pad directions to P1 Joy, which it read as the appropriate POV Hat. This allowed me to play the games (FV2, VF3, Strikeout) in the X dimension as well as the Y. The D-Pad is greatly inferior as a control mechanism, especially in games like VF3, where many move sets are based on tap-tap-tap combinations which are a beast to do on a tiny D-pad. OTOH, working is better than not working.

Still puzzled why it would read Up and Down correctly from the Analog stick, but not Left and Right.

something to test :
restart from stock supermodel.ini file
try -config-inputs
in config-inputs, try to set deadzone to the calibrate joystick axes option
read the readme file (line 1057)
poweruser only : you can try to edit yourself the supermodel.ini (setting correct axis and eventually deadzone to 5%)
tested on rev803, config inputs on vf3, all is ok with a xbox360 pad (even left right axis) on my computer
may be have you a second joystick/wheel that send values (not centered) and prevents xbox360 pad to read inputs, in this case, try to disconnect the second joy to check if there is an impact
no other ideas
