No ROMs recognized

Postby jackoctober » Sat Nov 19, 2011 8:58 am

Forgive me if someone posted about this before, but I couldn't find any other posts about it.

I've been trying out different GUIs for the SM3AE (on win7, 64 bit), and the one thing they all have in common is they cannot recognize any of my romsets. Not one has worked yet. The program determines I have the correct roms in the folder(IE I use the hide missing roms option in one of the GUIs), but when I go to play them either nothing happens at all or it says they don't exist in the directory. I've already checked rom path about 100 times to make sure I haven't screwed something as simple as that up.

Any ideas?

If the front end does not recognize your ROMs, I can't offer any advice because I did not write it, but if Supermodel itself complains, paste the contents of the error.log file here. Also, make sure your ROMs are contained in zip files, not unzipped.

I deleted my installation and tried your how-to under help again, step by step exactly, and it works fine now. I had it set up in another directory, on another disk.

But if I move the files (entire folder) anywhere else, it can't find the ROM files. Does the emulator have to be in C:\Supermodel or does it simply look within the same directory as the .exe?

Technically speaking, my computer may be haunted.

That or my brain.

File paths are always relative to the program's current working directory. In plain English: yes, the emulator expects the files to be in the same folder as Supermodel.exe. However, you can put them elsewhere and use either the full path or a relative path. For example, if Supermodel.exe is in C:\Supermodel but you have placed your ROMs in C:\Supermodel\ROMs, any of these commands would work:

Code: Select all
supermodel roms\scud.zip
supermodel c:\supermodel\roms\scud.zip
supermodel \supermodel\roms\scud.zip

The first is a relative path (relative to C:\Supermodel, since that is where you are running the emulator from), the other two are absolute paths. In my case, my ROMs are in C:\Model3\ROMs, so I type:

Code: Select all
supermodel \model3\roms\scud.zip

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
