supermodel and i5 2500k personal toughts

Postby karadaniano » Mon Dec 12, 2011 6:50 pm

well, i have finally managed to build my new pc i was dreaming so much wich this day.
i bought it part by part and as a college student i must say its pretty difficult to save up some bucks and have a normal life

enough talk this is the rig
i5 2500k @ 4 GHZ (stock cooler 64° full load, it passed the intelburn test )
2X2 GSkill 1600 MHZ CL7
OCZ GameXstreame 850 Watts
ASUS P8P67
Cooler Master 690 II
9800 GT

i must admit that with the stock speeds you will barely need an overclock, with the turbo boost reaching 3.7 GHZ you'will be pretty good with almost all the cpu intensive applications like mame, Pcsx2, Dolphin and Supermodel.

with daytona usa 2 i had almost fullspeed with stock speeds, but with 4 GHZ i barely notice the hiccups. (i dont see the need of 4 GHZ)
all the rest of the games that is supossed to be working runs great,

in dolphin i barely notice a difference with 4 ghz, since with stock speeds, with metroid prime i have 60 fps all the time including the intro with ingame cinematics (before 15/17 fps with my old e8200, now more than 60 fps!) if you had tried it beforce you will know is one if not the most cpu intensive game.

also if you are thinking of buying the basic i5 2500 for mame go for it, you will not regret it.
fullspeed on cpu intensive games with stock speeds like mortal kombat 4, prop cycle, invasion etc

anyway, if someone would want me to test some 3d mame game, or something related with dolphin, pcsx2, etc send me a PM and i will answer you with the results

Nice rig.

How well does F-ZeroGX run in Dolphin for you? What kind of fps are you getting?

I have a similar rig as the OP, apart from a slightly different motherboard (I have a Z68) with a stock speed i5 and I have a GTX 560ti, not 9800. F-Zero AX plays OK in Dolphin, but the framerate suffers when all the bells and whistles are piled on (AA & AF principally) and more than about 2 cars are on screen. Time trials though, it plays OK. This is running at 1920x1080, by the way.

well that 9800 gt is my old gpu, im saving up for a 570 gtx, but time to time :D
f-zero gx runs great on dolphin, im using the 7671 rev with directx11 plugins, in all the races runs at 60 fps, sometimes with little slowdowns when you use the boost in certain moments. i use a 1440* 900 res, 4AA, and 2.5 native internal res
also i don't see the need of 4 ghz, the 3.7 ghz stock speeds make the i5 2500k one of a kind

Hi karadaniano !! :D

Next week,i'll buy a i5 2500k and 2x4go ddr3 1600 mhz and may be an ASUS P8P67!

My curentCPU ,is a C2D 3.34 ghz + 6go ddr2 800mhz,and my curent GPU is good:

xfx hd 6870 @ 1000/1250 mhz, 1go gddr5,i can run battlefield 3 with ultra setting(MSAAx2) 1920x1080 with awesome framerate min 35 fps...max +60 fps/average 45 fps!

I think it will be better with the fantastic i5 2500k for all pc games and other emulator! :D

Are you stable in occt at 4ghz with stock cooling??

May be it's better with a Noctua nH U12?

hi man, congrats for your new pc!
well i have to say that i didnt stressed the i5 2500k a lot but i didnt have any problems till now. i play mortal kombat armageddon on pcsx2 more than 120 fps with the frame limiter disabled! its amazing how with my previous cpu i was only having 35/50. also gta vice city stories has more than 100 fps.
obviusly will be much better with an ir cooler, personally i prefer the hyper 212 series.
