Soo.. I almost got a 2:53 last night.. I recorded this race as well.. what a sight... For some reason my digital camera's sound is all jacked up :( so it would be muted.. but it shows one hell of a run (In traffic).. I think with the sterring wheel I will get even better results. Trying to get out of the grass in the last turn faster will help with taking the corner at top speeds...

That's a very impressive time Abelardo  . My time on the PS3 is not quite so good, I was ranked 1309 last time I checked (I managed to jump about 500 places up the ladder by shaving 2 seconds off my total time time though, so I was happy enough with that). The fastest PS3 time I've seen so far (could've changed by now though) was around 2'16. I watched the replay and I honestly could not see how it could be done any faster, so god only knows how that guy at the very top of the XBLA table managed to shave a further 4 seconds off to get a 2'12. I've been playing this with a pad and although it's great for casual play I don't think you can get the requisite amount of fine control (with the PS3 pad anyway) to come out of the Sonic corner and do the the pit lane shortcut that the top replays do. I tried a couple of times for a 'serious' time using this technique and would always at least once accidentally pit in or hit the grass verge and lose speed. I can't seem to do the actual Sonic corner quite as fast as people in the top replays either. Using manual gears, I quickly change to 1st to get the drift started then back up to 3rd as you powerslide around then back to 4th as you straighten up. The top guys seem to do a 4-2-4 which takes them around about 20 MPH faster, but whenever I try this the back end of the car seems to swing out and collide with the wall.

Hats off to Sega for doing a great job on this one conversion though. I managed to find a few online races at the weekend that had a full 8 players in them (up until now I'd only ever managed to 2 - 3 players max) and they really are a lot of fun. I even managed to win an online race on the expert course (admittedly with only two other players in that one) after totally cocking-up the start and crashing at the beginning. I was trailing behind the whole race but managed to catch up and then overtake the other two guys on the final hairpin after they collided with each other. You gotta love it when that happens.

Hello MrThunderwing, the only way to save time is not on the turn of Sonic, this in the trick of passing through pit lane without stopping. This is very difficult, entering without stopping, and then taking out last turn of pit lane at minimum 300Kmh. I'll try to upload a video of my replay.

Hey Abelardo, I've got a quick question for you regarding Daytona USA 2. I've re-watched your video where you come third on the expert course. When you use manual gears do you use the breaks as well? I've never really got my head around the manual gear drift system in this compared to Daytona 1. If I try changing down to 2nd from 4th and try turning the car seems to just automatically go into a spin. Cool replay on Daytona 1 BTW.

 :o That F**King Shortcut is soo hard to do.. :!: :!: I've been playing it on PSN and people are on there just killing that shortcut. :ugeek: . Basically your right wheels have to be.. like perfect into with the black edge of the pavement.. then you gear-drift 2-4 out of the pitstop.. I can get a good 2:20 without pitting.. but if i was pitting i would be down to 2:14 but to do that pit shortcut perfectly.. Its just not worth it in online battles but some people have it down perfect..lol

What they are doing (and i dont know how to do it) is some kinda jerking drift technique with the street that pushes their car away from the wall but still gaining speed.. their Sonic 3 drifts are 195 past sonic and going back to 200 afterwards... where is mines is 185 going into 190 doing the 4-1-4.. whats your name on PSN by the way?

The DaytonaUsa1 is a little different control for DaytonaUsa2, automatic transmission is useless, always play with manual transmission and use the brake in some corners, for example in the curve "360º" of expert circuit. Here among 4-Gear, use brake, put 2Gear, and accelerate but now with gas shocks. The only way to improve is to practice and see for yourself how the car acts.
I got a new records in Daytona1 (2'15"60) and I placed eighth in the ranking.

Yeah, I've noticed on the top replays some guys seem to drive just slightly to the the right of the middle of the track then just before entering the drift on the Sonic wall they swing out right a bit first before doing the hard left 195mph 4-2-4 drift. You're right about the pit lane shortcut being insanely difficult. I've managed to do it perfectly a couple of times, but no way can I do it consistently for 8 laps - I've tried, but after cocking it up for about the 15th time the game just starts to seem more frustrating than fun which is when I think it's time to just take a deep breath and call it a day (before the Joypad ends up getting thrown through the TV screen). Fair play on your 2'20 without doing the pit lane shortcut though, pretty impressive. My PSN name is the same as my username on here so maybe our paths may cross online... (don't be offended if I don't add you to my PSN friend list though, I've only got people that I know in real life on it ;) )

Cheers Abelardo, guess like you say the best way is to keep on practicing. I actually used a bit of advice you suggested awhile back on my Scud Race Facebook page about the solution to only having sequential flap shifters on my wheel, by using a second joypad as the shifter. Using some old leftover screws, brackets and other bits of junk I could find, I made a crude clamp for an old cheap-a-rama USB pad that had a broken analog stick so I could mount it my computer desk next to the wheel and then just use the buttons to shift. Worked pretty well for M2 Emu Daytona USA. I was able to take what I'd learned using manual gears on the PS3 and finally get first place on the Daytona advanced course on M2 Emu (I don't think it's possible with automatic, I could barely finish advanced before the time ran out, never mind getting a podium place).
