playing Daytona USA 2 Power Edition on Beginner course, i don't get any slowdown (it's the only course like that, all others have some slowdowns at some points, probably those famous "hiccups").

And what's interesting is i don't have any expensive unlocked Core i7 with 4 physical cores and 4 virtual cores @ extremely overclocked speeds, and no overclocked Geforce GTX 590 or something of the like, i don't have super expensive RAM...here are key specs of my main PC:

CPU: Intel i5 750 2.66Ghz Quad-core CPU @ 2.73Ghz, LGA 1156
RAM: G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM Ripjaws 8gb 7-8-7-24 (4 x 2gb DDR3-1600, 2x dual-channel RAM kit)
Video Card: eVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti Superclocked 1Gb GDDR5 256-bit (PCIe 2.0 16x)
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

i want to point out that you generally don't need an extremely powerful computer for emulation...yes you need power still, but don't try to HyperBlast your CPU like a supersonic rocket like most peoples did for trying to get a fair framerate with a poorly-emulated MAME with Daytona USA 2...that's just lame.

Good emulation is the key. Just look at the Dolphin Emulator, well-done emulation and i'm able to run tons of game with it, in HD, with a stable framerate!

Bart is doing a good job with his Supermodel emulator, there are bugs to fix and stuff to improve, but so far it look extremely promising and you can already play games with a good framerate!

the i5 750 is a high end cpu. and the stock speed of 2.6 ghz performs better than a mid range cpu rated at 3 ghz or more. anyway i think in less than a year the average users will update to lynfield or sandy bridge.

Lynnfield boards are already hard to find as no shops stock them now...yes, Intel is doing what AMD did (or still do?): changing sockets every 1-2 years (Remember Intel kept their LGA775 for quite a while before they discontinued it!).

On the other hand, i heard i could overclock my Core i5 up to 3.5Ghz comfortably, but i didn't tested this yet, i don't really like to overclock, i did that slight overclock because the Intel XMP option on my RAM make my CPU overclock slightly so they can run at DDR3-1600.

Are you sure it's a higher-end CPU? most peoples tend to go for Core i7 instead even if it's more expensive, the thing is i don't really trust those "virtual cores", it's kinda "smelly", they don't exist physically, yet they're still there

Hyperthreading has been known and used back to the 1960s. It's not a new thing, and it's not "smelly". Using all 8 cores on my i7-2600K (@ 4.7 GHz on a $30 air cooler, by the way) really works.

here you have a list of all the cpu's by their rank

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/

the i5 750 is in the high end cpu level, and with a good position, also dont forget the overclock value, you should not compare it with an overclocked core 2 duo, the i5 750 will outperform it easily

i guess he must use a Zalman CPU cooler...on my side, i really hate coolers with proprietary fans that is VERY HARD to replace when they get noisy! My CPU cooler is a Prolimatech Megahalems rev.B, which use standard 120mm fans, i use a Nexus 120mm black-white fan on it, which is great and low noise also.

The cooler's a Corsair A70, actually. Super-inexpensive and works great.
