How will light guns work with the emulator?

Postby SuperSZ » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:14 pm

I was just wondering, how will light guns (or Top Guns (I am not sure if it's synonim or Top Guns is the brand) ) work with, for example the Jurassic Park game.

Here is a sample video of a light gun (compatible with LCD monitor) :

If anyone has already tried, tell your experiences here :)

Hi SuperSZ,

I don't have any experience with the Top Guns but they should work fine with Supermodel. I own a pair Ultimarc AimTraks which by the look of it work in a very similar way to the Top Guns and these function very well with Supermodel.

Any device that reports itself to Windows as a mouse (and that includes lightguns, spinners, trackballs and Wii remotes+GlovePie) or as a joystick should work with Supermodel. Furthermore, if you use the RawInput input system on Windows then you can handle multiple lightguns for some two player action on Lost World, which works a treat :-)

Cheers, Nik.

Have you an idea to play with guns with a game that runs on a projector against a wall ?

I think both the LCD Topguns and the Ultimarc AimTraks should work with a projector against a wall. As long as the LED bars are positioned in the correct place and the player doesn't have to stand too far back they should function with any setup.

I've not tried this myself but here' s a video of someone using the LCD Topguns with a projector screen to play House of the Dead III:

If you don't mind having the LED bars in the middle of the screen then it looks like it will work!

Cheers, Nik.
