Hi, new here, but just wanted to pop in and a) thank you for the advice in this thread and b) offer this in addition...
If you plug an empty cable/headphone/whatever into the default audio jack as described here, but then open the Windows Volume Mixer and change the default output device to the "display audio" (or equivalent) then the emulator starts in fullscreen and with sound through HDMI as normal. It's not a fix as such, but it seems to be a workaround
