Input Config Tool Seems To Be Ignoring Inputs

I'm trying to set controls on Supermodel by using the command line "supermodel -config-inputs -input-system=xinput" but when the prompt comes up it seems to ignore whatever I press. I have tried this on two computers and with multiple controllers and the same thing happens every time. Also made sure the small window is active as well as tried it with the command prompt window being active.

Is there something I am missing which I need to apply?

Make sure that the Supermodel window (the empty black one) is selected and not the command prompt where the text appears (a bit counterintuitive, I know).
