Impressive run Sir, all the more so given that you're using keyboard (can't believe some knobhead's given you a thumbs down. What a twat). You managed to absolutely fly through the Snowy course there, which is the one that always trips me up, more so I'd say than the Riviera. I just can't seem to stop my myself clipping the sides of the track in Snowy and losing tons of speed and as a result I never manage to overtake any CPU cars on it. I've never been able to place higher than 4th in the game.

Bart, Ian,
This last is a recording of the actual hardware, I have noticed a lack of flash on the screen during the thunders in the last stage. (In the old engine I think
it's right)
Was this known for a future bug repair?

Can you make a save state? Plus some comparison screenshots to real h/w?
Currently I can't even get that far into the game lol

thanks for the comment(s)

snowy is definitely the most insidious stage, imo - i got a bit lucky that time (only minor mistakes , nothing too severe)
riviera is dumb in a way because you purposely have to hit the walls for the optimal, smoothest turns

keyboard is not too bad in rally 2,you can play the game just fine
it is definitely a little harder in daytona 2 (but still somewhat doable) and downright impossible in scud and lemans
shame about scud because drifting in that game is fun but controlling the cars during regular turns is simply not possible

cpu cars in rally 2 are strange : i am sure i ended up in second or third place after decent runs but got first with far worse lap / total times

youtube is hell for a number of reasons but that would be kinda OT here so yea
will send you a pm tomorrow or so though (about that vp9 thing)

Don't worry about any PMs, I'm familiar with the VP9 codec. One thing you can do to improve things is to upload your videos in 4k, which seems to automatically allocate you the VP9 codec rather than the AVC one. It's not foolproof though and I was having issues earlier in the year with videos getting stuck at 360p after you tube had processed them and now where they're displaying only the 4K options and nothing else. Sigh. Anything I've previously tried uploading in 1080p (only in the last few years though, I swear this didn't used to happen) gets graphically mangled by YouTube after processing into something looking more like 360p no matter whether the upload's 12,000 or 30,000 or 60,000Mbps and how crystal clear the original video file looked.

I felt inspired to have another shot at the podium in Sega Rally 2. Finally did it! Not as fast as Doteater's time, but hey, a first place is a first place, right? https://youtu.be/JZyhPWmXEiU

humm,i wanted to discuss a few theories with you , about what seems to trigger it etc
i was aware that you're currently sitting in your vp9 heaven and i'm kinda jealous to be honest !
i guess we can talk about it in the thread then, maybe other people will find this somewhat interesting or helpful
because, yea, some of the things i read aren't true at all . like :
- you need at least 1000 subs
- you need a certain number of views during the first day
- you need a constant number of views for that particular video to keep the vp9 codec otherwise it will get eventually replaced with the shitty one

in my case,i am pretty sure the culprit is my pre-youtube encoding from raw fraps / shadowplay avi files to mp4 via ffmpeg
some of my older stuff (short clips),uploaded directly without encoding, got the vp9 treatment and are still vp9 to this day
we'll see,i would like to figure this stuff out
youtube = bunch of scummy men for not divulging this kind of info though

btw,do you capture directly at 2/4k and then simply encode or you encode + upscale ? i guess it's the latter
i heard handbrake is a good program from that kind of stuff , what do you use ?

you are on the right path with the stratos, you can lower your time for sure if you keep on playing

personally,i'm trying to find my next car
people claim they are all so different but i do not really agree
only the peugeot is truly a complete different beast, imo
focusing on the delta right now, managed to improve my PB a little

I capture at the slightly weird resolution of 1280 x 768 (because I use my Dad's old widescreen TV as a PC monitor) and then upscale the video into 4K afterwards using PowerDirector 14. I used to use FRAPS for my initial gameplay capture, but I'm starting to use Obs now as it's far more lightweight and less of a CPU hog (although it's not as straightforward and user friendly). The only reason I upscale into 4K is to stop YouTube butchering the video in processing like it always seems to do with my 1080p uploads now. Uploading in 4K seems to guarantee that the video will get the VP9 codec. The thing about popular uploads getting upgraded to VP9 from AVC seems to be true, I've had it happen to some of my old 1080p uploads that have had lots of views, that I know for a fact started off as AVCs. In those instances though, I can't say I noticed it made a massive amount of difference to the (already butchered by YouTube) quality.

after jumping from the stratos to the delta , i obviously ditched the delta too
spent a bit of time trying out the other cars and i'm currently in the "the impreza is cool" phase
managed to improve my PB a little despite choking like a baby in riviera (4:12:00)
i would like to break the sub 4:10 barrier with the impreza , record a video and upload it (this time with vp9) and then move on to something else
we'll see . for now,my current records with the various cars

impreza - 4:12:00
delta - 4:12:68
escort - 4:13:80
stratos - 4:14:04
corolla - 4:14:15
celica - 4:14:15
lancer - 4:14:94
peugeot - 4:15:75

the peugeot is crazy, reminds me a bit of the train in motor toon gp 2
btw , motor toon gp 1+2 = driving game of the gods

I managed to rope a mate into some 2 player networked Supermodel. This is a 2 player game on the Beginner stage on Daytona USA 2: Power Edition (the video's been sped up and re-dubbed afterwards)
