I accidentally stumbled upon an alternate view in Scud Race. See below.

Image

The camera is lower and is also locked so that it always faces the rear of the car. Normally, the camera allows the car to swerve about its axes a bit before it will re-adjust the view position, but in the alternate view, the car will always be stationary. I suspect it may be useful for drifting (which tends to be easier to get the hang of in first person views, VR1 and VR2, precisely because of how the camera moves with the car) because of the way it is activated: when the car begins to slide, press VR3 again when in the VR3 view. Normally, pressing VR3 multiple times won't do anything and if the car has already entered the slide, this will not work. A similar view for VR4 does not appear to exist. It would be interesting to see if there are any other "secret" views, similar to Daytona 2.

Drifting in Scud Race is actually quite simple. It's a bit different than Daytona 2. You don't need to use the brake, just let up on the accelerator, turn, and the car will start to slide. In order to prevent it from sliding out and losing control, depress the accelerator slightly after you start to drift. I have my accelerator mapped to a button, not an analog trigger, so I rapidly tap the gas. Give it a shot.

will do. When I get home I will start practicing on Scud race.. I understand the turning concept but its just that analog stick .. I need something like a steering whell to really take the turns right. Scud Race gives you no room for error.. daytona 2.. you can play with the gears and look on the road for skidlines to follow but scud.. its quite the challenge. Even on Easy (time limit) i cannot finish the Medium track..at all.. sad sad sad

It's touchy with an analog stick but you can play with the saturation setting. I play with the default (very sensitive) settings and have managed to do quite well. The trick is to keep your thumb relaxed. Once you master getting into the drift and applying limited gas to control it initially, you'll find that it is actually quite forgiving about steering. Once you're in a controlled drift and have the car angled correctly, you can even floor the pedal again, do a hard turn, and still come out okay.

Once you get it, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Oh yes I know the feeling.. I did some runs last night after scoring a really fast lap in Daytona 2.. I ran that begginer night course.. Love the course.. i hate the many many many mistakes I made.. I ran it enough times to actually get a perfect race.. I got a 1:57 total time.. (10 seconds away from the Marubaku team).. I plan on buying the g27 this weekend and hoping that the gears work on the mac side... Oh please do..lol if not i will run it in windows.. Has anyone had force feedback work with them on the Mac build?

I'm afraid to say that force feedback in Supermodel is currently only available on the Windows version. This is because it makes use of DirectInput.

Your wheel and gears should work okay as a controller (providing they are compatible with SDL on the MAC and I see no reason why they shouldn't be) you just won't experience any feedback. Also, be sure to configure and calibrate the controls in Supermodel via -config-inputs before you start.

Cheers, Nik.

cool. I guess I will be Bootcamping my way into windows 7 so I can have the wheel shake about.. Does the wheel fight back as the arcade coutner part with force feedback enabled?
